Australia's New Flushable Logo (What can you flush?)

June 28, 2022

Australia is set to roll out a new flushable logo that will be placed on all flushable products. The flushable logo will help consumers identify which products are flushable and which are not. This is a much needed change, as many of the flushable products currently on the market are not actually flushable. These products can cause serious damage to plumbing, and the "flushable" logo is often misleading.

The new flushable logo will help to ensure that consumers are able to flush only those products that are safe for plumbing. In addition, the new logo will also help to educate consumers about what products are safe to flush and what are not. This is a much-needed change that will help to protect plumbing and keep consumers informed.

The new flushable logo will set the standard

The draft Australian/New Zealand Standard for flushable products has been developed by utilities and manufacturers to provide clear criteria for what is flushable, and appropriate labelling requirements.

This will be the first standard of its kind internationally, and will help to reduce blockages and flooding caused by flushable products that do not disintegrate. The flushable logo will be used to identify products that meet the criteria for flushability, and will give consumers confidence that they can flush the product without risk of causing a problem.

For manufacturers, the standard provides a clear pathway to getting their products labeled as flushable, and ensures that only products that meet the criteria can be labelled as such. This is a good step toward preventing clogs and flooding and keeping our sewerage systems in good condition.

Flushing products labeled as flushable, that are not really flushable…

If you're like most people, you probably flush all kinds of things down the toilet without giving it a second thought. But did you know that not all flushable products are actually flushable? In fact, flushing the wrong thing down the toilet can cause serious damage to your plumbing.

Many products on the market claim to be flushable, but they're not really flushable and can cause a clog in your pipes and even lead to a sewage backup.

The existing flushable advertising logo on these products is often misleading, and the products can cause serious damage to plumbing. So before you flush anything down the toilet, make sure it's truly flushable by checking for the new flushable logo that is set to come out soon. If you're ever in doubt, err on the side of caution and throw it in the trash instead.

What are truly flushable products?

As the world has grappled with the COVID-19 pandemic, toilet paper shortages and more - flushable products have been in high demand over the past two years.

The flushable logo on a product indicates that it is safe to flush down the toilet, and this is especially important during a time when people are trying to reduce the spread of germs. Flushable products include toilet paper, flushable wipes, and flushable diapers. They are made from materials that break down quickly in water, so they will not clog your pipes or cause sewage backups.

In addition, flushable products are biodegradable, so they are earth-friendly as well. If you are looking for a way to help reduce the spread of germs during the COVID-19 pandemic, choose flushable products.

Steps to consider before flushing

True flushable products are designed to be safe for septic systems and therefore will not clog your pipes. However, there are a few things to keep in mind when using flushable products.

First, make sure that the product has the flushable logo on it. This means that it has been tested and approved by the National Sanitation Foundation.

Second, be sure to flush only one or two flushable products at a time. If you flush too many at once, they may not all break down and could clog your pipes.

By following these simple guidelines, you can help keep your pipes clear and prevent problems with your septic system.
